Our flagship on-line positive parenting course will provide you with a toolkit of parenting and communication skills to use in every parenting situation. This will help you feel calmer and more in charge, help your children behave better, and improve family relationships which makes life more enjoyable and fulfilling.
The course is limited to 15 participants to ensure plenty of time for individual questions. Each session is 90 minutes long starting at 8pm. You will also receive a detailed workbook (posted to UK addresses, available as a digital download for those outside the UK).
Working collaboratively with other parents increases your engagement and understanding, and helps alleviate the feeling of isolation and stress that many parents experience. We combine different ways to learn including active discussion, video clips, role plays, written exercises and optional supplementary reading. This is all designed to deepen your understanding and empower you to get into action.
Investing 12 hours of your time to take a parenting course is the best commitment you can make to help your family thrive. It's less time than we tend to spend learning to drive or train a dog!
Our self-esteem has a huge influence on every aspect of our life, as it affects how we interact with challenges and opportunities. Parents help develop their child’s sense of self using skills such as Descriptive Praise. Nurturing your child’s self-esteem also has a positive effect on how you feel as a parent, and the general mood and dynamics at home.
Our emotions guide our thoughts and behaviours. Developing Emotional Intelligence helps us understand our feelings and manage them in a healthy and positive manner. This means our children become more resilient and experience less stress and anxiety. Connecting with, and calming our children’s emotions, rather than trying to change how they feel, is the first step towards helping them with their behaviour.
When we hold appropriate expectations for our child’s behaviour – based on their developmental stage and temperament – and understand what pushes us to shout and threaten, we are more able to stay calm and respond effectively. This enables us to be firmly and positively in charge at home, helping our children behave well and maintaining a warm and loving relationship.
Children behave better when they understand what they need to do, and have a chance to prepare and practice. Busy parents often try to improve their child’s behaviour in the moment or fall into the habit of taking over. When we set up for success, we provide valuable learning opportunities that build competence and confidence, and help our children develop resilience and a can-do attitude.
When we identify the values that matter to us as a family, we create a strong sense of connection and provide a predictable and secure environment for our children. Developing positive rules and consistent routines, which are supported by effective rewards, makes it more likely our children will behave well and feel motivated to keep trying.
All children misbehave, and these are some of the hardest moments as a parent. How we handle our children's inappropriate behaviour affects whether they repeat or escalate the negative behaviour, or try a better way to behave. Knowing how to respond calmly and positively influences our child's self-esteem, their relationship with us, their ability to learn, and improves harmony at home.
